Kirkwood Middle School Volleyball League
Why
The Kirkwood High School boys volleyball program is sponsoring a team(s) made up of incoming 6th-8th graders.
We want to promote volleyball within our district with the intent of helping boys learn the game of volleyball, be a part of a team, represent Kirkwood, and continue a feeder program into the high school.
Practices will consist of both individual and team concepts with an emphasis based upon the level of the team: serving and service receive, setting, offensive systems (6-2 and/or 5-1) attacking and transition to attacking, hitter protection,blocking, digging and defense, and team chemistry. An emphasis will be placed upon having fun, learning the game, and being a good team athlete.
Who
Current 6th-8th grade boys enrolled in the Kirkwood School District. We welcome players with experience such as CYC or club teams as well as those that are new to the game.
Legacy
This is our fourth session participating in the Legacy/Stratman league. In our first session we had fourteen boys sign up. It was great to see the growth of them as players continue and expand Kirkwood friendships through volleyball. Many of the players continued their participation by playing on select/club teams.
Where and When
Practices will be held at Kirkwood High School on the following dates: 12/2, 12/9, 12/16, 12/30 (tentative), ⅙, 1/13, 1/20, 1/27, 2/3. Practices will be from 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
We highly encourage participation in the practices but understand this is not always possible.
Matches will be held at Legacy VTC in Fenton or at the Chesterfield Sports Complex on Fridays on the following dates: 12/5, 12/12, 12/19, 1/9, 1/16, 1/23, 1/30, and 2/6. Match times run for 50 minutes and start times range from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Cost
$545 would be split equally between the players. Numbers for a team tend to be between 8-12. Families would also have to split the $34 an hour fee that the district requires. This would be around $300 for the eight to nine weeks of practice. So if we have eight players then the cost would approximately be $105, if we have twelve players then the cost would approximately be $70. Uniforms are not required, the boys tend to wear a red Kirkwood shirt if they have one. THAT’S NOT REQUIRED!
Deadline
Your deadline to register for the Kirkwood team is November 20. Coach Pounds will register the team and then add players after that date. YOU DON’T HAVE TO REGISTER WITH THE LEAGUE, COACH POUNDS WILL TAKE CARE OF THAT, JUST CONTACT HIM TO LET HIM KNOW OF YOUR INTEREST.
Coaches
The KHS high school boys volleyball staff will be directly involved with practices and matches with 6th and 7th graders. KHS alumni will work with and coach the 8th grade team.
